Torana music box is a Sri Lankan record label established in the mid-1970s. Torana comes from a rich history of music. It represents quality and excellence since it was founded by our founder Mr. Sarath Kotelawela, who is an old boy of Royal College Colombo Sri Lanka. A performance at Torana is incomparable to anywhere else. Our founder has nurtured this brand for over 50 years and has produced some of Sri Lankan’s best artists. Torana Music Box is one of the pioneers in the music industry, which captured the market by manufacturing and marketing Audio Cassettes in 1976. In 1994, Torana manufactured and introduced Compact Discs CDs to Sri Lanka. Clearance Wijewardena’s “Sihiwatana” with 16 songs

was among the list. After Compact Discs Torana introduced DVD’s in the year 2000, in the form of musical concerts and Karaoke DVDs. Torana produced 125 Sinhala films on DVD. The market was booming with Sinhalese songs sung by industry legends such as Pandith W D Amaradeva, Clarance Wijewrdena, Milton Mallawarchchi, Victor Rathnayaka, Amarasiri Peiris, Sunil Edirisinghe, C.T. Fernando, Desmond De Silva, Dalreen Suby and Annesly Malawane etc. Their albums were manufactured, marketed and distributed by Torana. Torana became a household name for music lovers in Sri Lanka and internationally. As a result, there was a big demand for Torana products and presently owns sole rights for 393 Audio Masters, 205 DVD Masters and a number of Vinyl Records.

We have launched a Torana Music website Torana.lk to market our products to the locals & to Sri Lankans living overseas. With all, we continue to grow and expand the scope of its services to Sri Lankans at home and abroad, utilizing the latest trends in information technology and communications as it is our mission to provide high-quality music to our followers. As the market was booming for cassettes and CD’s small-time entrepreneurs entered the market by introducing the pirated versions of these songs and destroyed the market drastically bringing down the price, yet Torana was able to survive in the market due to their high-quality products. Most of these small-time operators went out of business. Torana maintains its market leadership to date.

Torana had been introducing new products into the music industry and our latest productions are music videos and audio into the digital platform. Torana has uploaded a few of its musical concerts, films, and audio content onto YouTube, which has created a demand for its uploaded products. Torana re-introduced extremely high-quality Vinyl Records recently which was very popular in the 1960s-1970s. Torana also imports high-quality Record Players which are sold at their Liberty Plaza sales Outlet in Colombo 03.
